The Barcelona Chair, arguably the most famous chair of the last century, was designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1929, is one of the most knocked off chairs in the market place. Companies that produce licensed designs (such as Knoll, Herman Miller and Cassina) have been forced to become more assertive with stamping and labeling their products to distinguish them from their counterfeit cousins.

Ross Taylor, owner of GRShop.com and Gabriel Ross, strongly champions Be Original and its work, "GRShop.com and Gabriel Ross has a long history of supporting original design and has been a supporting member of Be Original for several years now. Our tag line "Always Authentic" pretty much sums it up. We feel strongly that originality crosses all price points and if the authentic item that you covet is not in the budget, then seek out something authentic that is. There is an industrial designer out there who would love to have your support."

You have all seen, and maybe some have unintentionally purchased, a knockoff or a fake. There is a good rule of thumb when buying new or vintage design classics: if there is no mention or markings of the manufacturer, the piece was probably not made by the original or licensed manufacturer. In other words — it's a knock-off.
