Josef Albers

The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation is a continuation of a non-profit organization which Josef Albers established in 1971 to further “the revelation and evocation of vision through art.” Today, it is devoted to preserving and promoting the enduring achievements of both Josef and Anni Albers, and the aesthetic and philosophical principles by which they lived. Josef and Anni Albers were Bauhaus-trained artists and each contributed significantly to the modern art and design movement in their rich careers in Germany as well as a half-century in the US. Josef joined the faculty teaching and working at the Bauhaus School until it was forced to shut down in 1933, upon which the Albers emigrated to the US on the recommendation of Philip Johnson and Edward MM Warburg of MoMA. The Albers furniture collection are approved reproductions based on the original, or reconstructed pieces designed by Josef Albers in the 1920s.
