Bertjan Pot is a young Dutch designer (born: 1975) who is probably best known for his 2002 Random Light, designed for Moooi. Bertjan starts each of his designs based on experiments with different materials, enabling him to discover production techniques and aesthetic developments.
Designed for Moooi in 2002, the Random Light became a best seller immediately. It transmits a feeling of simplicity, softness , lightness and a touch of magic. The production process is a special story by itself: a resin coated yarn is randomly coiled around an inflatable beach ball creating a translucent 3D fabric. The beach ball is then deflated and extracted from a round opening in the lamp. Available as a pendant light or a floor lamp.
The results of Pot's experimentation lies within unusual and attractive patterns, colours and structures. His eccentric lighting designs explore familiar shapes such as clouds and plants using atypical materials.
The Moooi Heracleum Collection of Suspension Lamps is inspired by the Heracleum plant, commonly known as Cow Parsnip. The white "leaves" or lenses extend out from one branch creating a very natural structure. By using the technique of coating conductive layers, the lamp is very thin and delicate. Available in five options.
The Moooi Heracleum Suspension Light works in both residential and commercial situations. A lovely, delicate light that adds a natural element to any room, big or small.
The Moooi Carbon Chair was designer by Bertjan Pot and Marcel Wanders. The Carbon Chairs' incomparable lightness, both visually and physically, is due to the structure. Also available as a bar stool.
Since 2010 Bertjan Pot has been working on a series of face masks that grew out of an experiment to stitch rope together to make a carpet. When the material would not lie flat, Bertjan came up with the idea to make face masks with the curvy results.
"I meet new faces everyday" - Bertjan Pot. Handcrafted, very experimental, and pushing the boundaries, these masks are part of a series made in the Berjan Pot Studio in the Netherlands.
Bertjam Pot also is known for light sculptures, including a large piece for the Rotterdam Central Train Station.
This Bertjan Pot sculpture, Downstairs Light, 2012, is made of aluminum, metal, plastic and rubber. Installed at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
