Finn Juhl Whisky Chair FJ 4880 > Limited Edition
The Whisky Chair was designed by Finn Juhl in 1948 and is characterized by his artistic sense of shape, function, and detail. The chair is produced in American walnut and is upholstered by hand in 'Watercolour' textile in the colours 'Dark Conifer' and 'Mojave'.
These Special Edition walnut chairs are numbered and are a part of a Limited Series of 250 pieces. The right armrest unfolds organically towards the end, making way for a handmade half-moon shaped brass tray. The tray can unfold into a full circle where a hole in the brass surface is shaped to hold a glass.
Finn Juhl's original watercolour drawing from 1948 shows how two chairs fit perfectly together, as the right and left armrests are asymmetrical. The Whisky Chair is overwhelmingly comfortable and invites you to partake in a special moment of immersion and enjoyment.
The exclusive chair was originally presented at the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition in 1948, as part of Finn Juhl's concept "The Living Room of an Art Collector", but was not put into production. Finn Juhl always dared to stand alone and was unconcerned about the critics who found his designs too extravagant.
As part of the 250 Limited Edition, you will receive a complimentary bottle of a limited peat smoked single malt whisky, aged in an Amartone wine cask, by the award-winning Danish distillery Stauning Whisky, along with a unique mouth-blown glass crafted by glassmaker Mikkel Yerst.
The numbered editions are: 116/250 & 139/250. Please specify in the Notes area at checkout if you have a preference for either number.

Finn Juhl
Finn Juhl, born in Denmark in 1912, was a pioneering force in his own country. Juhl is credited along with fellow Danes Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner, and Poul Kjaerholm for introducing Danish modern design to mid-century America.
He began designing furniture like the 1941 Poet Sofa for use in his own home, north of Copenhagen. Juhl felt that furniture, handicraft and art should create a “completeness” of the home, which in his case was decorated with works of the Danish painters of the time.
Juhl made his American debut in 1951 at the "Good Design" exhibit in Chicago and at MoMA in New York, and he represented Denmark in creating the interior of a meeting hall at the United Nations Headquarters.
In 1998 Finn Juhl’s widow, Hanne Wilhelm Hansen, asked the Danish company, Onecollection, to help her make one of Finn Juhl’s sofas – Model 57, designed in 1957. Hanne Wilhelm Hansen wanted to have a single unit of the sofa produced for an exhibition that she wanted to arrange in honour of Juhl who had passed away in 1989. This was a fantastic challenge and this was the beginning of a new chapter in Onecollection’s history. This initial request has led to Onecollection producing many of Finn Juhl’s designs and they have exclusive rights worldwide. In 2013, Onecollection manufactured all new furniture for the Finn Juhl Chamber at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Finn Juhl was an architect and interior and industrial designer most known for his furniture design. He stood out at the forefront of Danish design in the 1940s because he designed furniture with the human body in mind. Finn Juhl’s famous designs include the Pelican Chair, the Poet Sofa, the Chieftain Chair, and the Butterfly table. He is also credited for introducing Danish Design to North America.
In 2001, Ivan Hansen and Hans Henrik Sørensen were trusted with all the exclusive rights to manufacture and relaunch Finn Juhl’s sculptural and iconic furniture by Finn Juhl’s widow Hanne Wilhelm Hansen. Today, the extraordinary collection of chairs, tables, desks, sofas, dining, office, and living room furniture is still created organically, meticulously, and with strict attention to what Finn Juhl would have done. His unique perspective, finesse, and style live on in more than 50 classic masterpieces.
