Knoll
Knoll has lived their guiding principle, "good design is good business," since 1938. Products are all created to inspire, fit, and last. The Bauhaus philosophy that furniture should complement, not compete with architecture, is central to Knoll's design. Its extensive portfolio includes office work systems, residential mid-century modern classics, textiles, and accessories.
Designers like Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen, Warren Platner, Isamu Noguchi, and Florence Knoll contributed to Knoll's iconic designs. Knoll invests in research and field studies and explores organizational behavior and technology to ensure quality excellence. As a leader in sustainability, Knoll's practices reduce waste and conserve resources. Based in Pennsylvania, Knoll has a strong international presence, and 40 products are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Knoll in Canada
Knoll was founded in New York in 1938 by Hans Knoll, whose aim was to bring European modernist design to North American commercial interiors. Florence Knoll joined in 1943 and married Hans in 1946. Through the Knoll Planning Unit, she coordinated the furniture, textiles, and spatial planning that shaped postwar office interiors across North America.
The KnollStudio collection holds some of the most significant furniture produced in the twentieth century. Harry Bertoia's wire chairs, including the Side Chair, Diamond Chair, and Bird Chair, have been in continuous production since 1952. Eero Saarinen designed the Womb Chair in 1948 and the Tulip Chair in 1956; both remain in production. Warren Platner's steel rod chairs and tables, introduced in 1966, are also in continuous production. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Chair, Brno Chair, and Barcelona Daybed, and Marcel Breuer's Cesca Chair and Laccio Table are produced to the original specifications. Jens Risom, who designed the first Knoll catalog in 1942, is also represented. Florence Knoll's own seating and case goods remain part of the program.
Knoll Office addresses task and professional seating. The Generation Chair, Life Chair, and MultiGeneration Chair cover a range of working configurations. The Newson Task Chair was designed by Marc Newson. Richard Schultz joined Knoll in 1951 and developed the 1966 Collection, originally for outdoor use at Florence Knoll's Florida home; the range remains the outdoor anchor of the Knoll program.
GRShop is an authorized Knoll retailer in Canada, carrying KnollStudio seating, tables, and storage alongside Knoll Office task chairs. Delivery across Canada. Select Knoll pieces are on display in the Victoria showroom.
