Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Stephan Copeland has worked as a designer since 1989, when he launched Copeland Studio in Los Angeles. Currently based in Merion, Pennsylvania, the studio operates in Montreal, New York City, and Northern Italy.

A frequent speaker at design forums and universities, Copeland passionately advocates the power of industrial design to elevate the physical experience. In a design world so empowered by the graphic powers of CAD and plastics, Copeland is compelled by the associated physical possibilities.

With the Copeland lamp for Knoll, he has achieved that fluidity of design and ease of interaction with people. The result is a lamp that blends effortlessly and gracefully into the world of its user.
