New: Anglepoise Lamps, an iconic British brand
Venture into the Anglepoise Collection of lamps and be spoiled for choice. It's all about the springs. In 1931 British automotive engineer George Carwardine developed a concept for balancing weights using springs, cranks and levers.
Using special springs with a ‘constant tension’ quality Carwardine chanced upon the means to create an articulated task lamp that could combine ultimate flexibility with perfect balance. A patent was filed and in 1933 the first four-spring Anglepoise lamp was launched.
The Original 1227 pioneered Anglepoise’s constant spring technology, delivering ultimate flexibility and perfect balance. Today this timeless, classic design enjoys iconic design status.
Available in many different colour options, including chrome, depending on the Anglepoise 1227 edition you choose. Also available as a desk lamp, wall mounted lamp, wall lamp, pendant lamp.

Anglepoise was approached by the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre to produce a giant version of the Anglepoise Original 1227 Lamp that sat on the desk in Dahl’s writing hut. Three prototypes were produced; one for the Centre, a second was sold to film director, Tim Burton and a third was exhibited at the 100% Design Exhibition in London. The lamp generated so much interest that it was put into volume production.

The anthropomorphic quality of the Anglepoise lamp design has inspired musicians, artists, designers and writers over the years. In 1979, the punk pop band, The Soft Boys, released the song, "(I want to be an) Anglepoise lamp". Six years later in 1985, innovative sculptor, David Mach created, "The Giant Hand Sculpture named Knuckle Shuffle" from 360 black Anglepoise lamps.
