The Etch Shade pendant light and candle holder by Tom Dixon has gained a few new family members in 2012. Originally introduced in 2010, this design made its debut in light brass - coordinating with other Dixon creations like the popular Beat collection.

Stainless steel and copper materials along with a more open design called "light web" created a buzz at this year's ICFF in New York. They were also featured at Tom Dixon's "Luminosity - an exploration of light" during Milan Design Week.

These shades are not only industrial in the aesthetic sense of the word, they are actually produced using the same process that is used to create electronic parts. Alternative use of an intricate tool creates a perfect maze of shadows when lit.
