Pantone's 2017 Colour of the Year is Greenery
Pantone, the international authority on colour, colour systems and the leading technology company for accurate communication of colour, has named "Greenery" as its 2017 Colour of the Year. Here are some products you can find at GRShop.com that will give you a very green 2017.
Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen is now producing a mini version of the iconic Panthella Lamp by Verner Panton. The desktop lamps come in a range of bright colours drawn from Panton's work, including this glossy green, straight out of the 1970s.
Pantone's colour pick for next year is a "tangy yellow-green" shade often seen in foliage – technically called Pantone 15-0343, variations of the shade have already started to crop up in all sorts of well designed products.
The Artifort Mushroom Chair and Footstool, designed by Pierre Paulin in 1960, is available in several shades of green, including one similar to Pantone 15-0343.
Pantone said the choice was made in response to a "stressful and tense world. Bringing forth a refreshing take, Greenery is a tangy yellow-green that speaks to our need to explore, experiment and reinvent. Illustrative of flourishing foliage, the fertile attributes of Greenery signals one to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate."
The Vitra Eames Elephant is available in a plastic version for those it was originally intended for: children. Whether as a toy or as an item for children's bedrooms, this friendly-looking animal with its distinctive, huge floppy ears should make the heart of many a child (and parent) beat just that little bit faster.
The first Iittala birds were created by Oiva Toikka and the glassblowers of the Nuutajarvi Glass Factory, the oldest in Finland, in 1973. Each bird is a unique individual, and is signed with the artist's name as well as the name of Nuutajarvi. The iittala Birds are cherished and valued gifts, and are irresistible to collectors around the world.
The Pantone Colour Institute advises the fashion, product, interiors and packaging design industries on the use of colour in design. It has been choosing a Colour of the Year since 1999. For 2016, Pantone picked two soft colours – a baby blue and dusty pink.
Similar to the choice of Greenery, previous Colours of the Year have tended towards the bolder end of the spectrum, with the brownish-red Marsala colour for 2015 and Radiant Orchid for 2014.
Isamu Noguchi's predilection for sculptural lines are present in his Freeform Sofa and Ottoman, the shapes of which are reminiscent of river pebbles. Noguchi himself described his design as "soft rock". Thanks to its organic shape and the natural tones of its upholstery fabric the sofa has a light, elegant feel in shades of Greenery.
Artifort loves "Greenery" for many of its upholstered chairs and sofas. Artifort reintroduced the F 978 Chair in 2006 and it is rocking this bright refreshing colour.
So when you are choosing products for your home or office, go for Greenery, and have a very merry 2017.
