In a Canadian winter the candles come out in November and stay until March. A candleholder used that often has to look right unlit at noon as well as lit at dinner.
Candleholders
Mogens Lassen designed Kubus in 1962 and kept it at first for family and architect friends. Audo Copenhagen still makes it in Denmark, for four or eight candles. Alvar Aalto's wave outline appears in brass on Iittala's Aalto candleholders. Oiva Toikka's Kastehelmi and Tapio Wirkkala's Ultima Thule hold tealights in pressed and textured glass. Stelton's Nordic Ora is by Daniel Debiasi and Federico Sandri, and Peter Karpf drew the Gemini holder for Architectmade.
Throws and cushions from Roros Tweed
The Holiday Triptych began as a weaving study with Anderssen & Voll: three throws that belong together, like the three panels of a triptych. The Kassett throw is by Skogstad & Wærnes. Kristine Five Melvær designed the cushions, among them Mikkel in lambswool, Pastille, Stemor and Vega.
Flameless light and pattern
Audo's Ignus is an LED candle in matte bone china, dimmable to three settings, for a child's room or a shelf near the curtains. Marimekko adds colour with the Unikko tealight holder by Maija and Kristina Isola and the Fyr and Puteli candle holders.
