A holiday table needs one loud pattern and quiet pieces around it. Give the pattern to the dinner plates, keep the mugs and bowls plain, and let dessert bring the stripes.
Iittala Taika and Teema in Holiday Red
Heikki Orvola shaped Taika, and Klaus Haapaniemi drew its owl and the forest around it. Holiday Red puts both on a red ground. Teema is Kaj Franck's plain, stackable everyday line, made in the same red, so a Teema mug or bread plate sits next to a Taika dinner plate without a clash.
Delight by Nika Zupanc
Nika Zupanc's Delight collection for Alessi is white with red stripes and small gold stars. There's a cake stand, a panettone serving plate, a biscuit jar, a mug and a candlestick, and a matching Delight bauble on our Ornaments & Tree page.
Placemats, place markers and nutcrackers
Chilewich weaves the round Bow placemat from stain- and fade-resistant TerraStrand yarn in the USA, so it wipes clean after a long dinner. Alessi's Barkplace place markers are small mirror-polished trees on gold bases, one for each guest. When the plates are cleared, bring out a nutcracker: Ettore Sottsass's Twergi, Andrea Branzi's Scoiattolo or Enzo Mari's Farfalla.
