Christmas Ornaments and Tree Decorations
A tree stays in the room for a month, and you look at it every day. We choose ornaments the way we choose furniture, by designer and by material, and with the next ten Decembers in mind. Glass from Iittala, brass from Vitra, handmade teak from Architectmade and paper from Flensted all share a branch without a fight.
Iittala glass ornaments
Timo Sarpaneva designed the Sun Ball in the 1960s. Iittala now makes it at 80 mm, three to a box in clear, green and linen, each on a grey ribbon. Iittala's glass apples, Holiday mini birds and Vulpes ornament hang well beside the classic glass balls, which come in sets of five at 3.25 inches and 1.5 inches.
Alessi baubles and Le Palle Quadrate
Marcello Jori and Massimo Giacon turned the Christmas ball into a cube for Le Palle Quadrate and gave every one a name: Cubicorno, Quadratigra, Cobosmico, Snowray. Alessandro Mendini's Proust baubles take their name from his 1978 Proust armchair. Nika Zupanc's Delight bauble repeats the red and white stripes of her Delight cake stand, which you'll find on our Holiday Table page.
Mobiles, teak ornaments and the tree base
Ole Flensted designed the Christmas Tree mobile so that six small trees, the hearts and a star at the top read as one large tree. Flensted mobiles hang on fine threads and move with the warm air, so hang one in a window or over the dining table. Nikolaj Klitgaard's Jul ornaments for Architectmade are handmade in teak, with standing trees and angels in two sizes. Under the tree, Fritz Hansen's Stella base holds water in a gilt cup, and small screws keep the trunk straight.
