Sugar castor. With its anthropomorphic appearance, this sugar castor is a representative icon of Venturini's style. It was conceived as part of the F.F.F. (Family Follows Fiction) metaproject, an operation in the early 1990s that aimed to explore the affective structure of shapes and objects, starting from the idea of reproducing the object creation process followed by children and primitive cultures. The result is a family of playful objects reminiscent of fairytale characters: they offer attractive answers to everyday uses, they suggest mediation through playing, and they're a bridge to the world of the imagination.

Guido Venturini
Italy, 1957
Born at Alfonsine in 1957. Architect, designer and explorer in the field of industrial design, interior design and architecture. In 1985 he and Stefano Giovannoni founded the Bolidist group and set up King-Kong Productions. He has taught at Domus Academy and at Florence Faculty of Architecture.
The products he's most well-known for include his Firebird Miniature Lighter and Zucchino Sugar Sifter for Alessi. Music is his greatest passion and source of inspiration.
Alessi is known for producing many of the most iconic home accessories and homeware in the world. Founded in 1921, each product elevates the expression and function of household items, from tableware and flatware, kitchen and bathroom accessories to tea kettles and coffee makers, and more.
In collaboration with internationally recognized designers such as Michael Graves, Philippe Starck, and Richard Sapper, Alessi embodies Alberto Alessi’s vision that "A true design work must move people, convey emotions, bring back memories, surprise, and go against common thinking."
This item qualifies for free door-to-door delivery within Canada, with a few exceptions:
- Orders $180 or less are charged a $35 small order fee at checkout.
- Additional charges apply for Remote Delivery Areas including the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and other remote locations outside of major city centres.
- Small items will be delivered by FedEx or other courier service in your area.
- Large items will be delivered by freight service. This is standard curbside delivery; meaning the driver will not haul up an incline or up stairs, and it will be your responsibility to bring the item inside, complete any assembly, and remove packaging debris.
