Knoll Klismos Bench
Italian architect Antonio Citterio brings streamlined simplicity to an ancient Greek form with his Klismos by Knoll seating collection. Crafted from natural materials, the Klismos Bench is made of durable oak and sturdy cotton cord. Precisely woven across the subtly curved frame, the cord creates a comfortable seat, which can be topped with the optional cushion. "I particularly enjoy telling the story of this product," says the designer. "It contains the memory of an icon of classical Greek culture."

Antonio Citterio
Italy, 1950
Born in 1950 in Meda, Italy, Antonio Citterio opened his architecture office at the age of just 22. One of the most internationally sought-after designers, Citterio has worked for such renowned companies as Vitra, Flos, Kartell, and Iittala. The reason for the success of his design projects is that he likes to “tease” out an object’s dormant potential. He is on a constant search for true and authentic work and that he detests bad design. In 1987 and in 1994, Antonio Citterio received the Compasso d’Oro award.
Since 2006 he has been teaching architectural design at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, Switzerland. In 2008, the Royal Society honored him for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce of London, which gave him the title of “Royal Designer for Industry.”

Knoll has lived their guiding principle, "good design is good business," since 1938. Products are all created to inspire, fit, and last. The Bauhaus philosophy that furniture should complement, not compete with architecture, is central to Knoll’s design. Its extensive portfolio includes office work systems, residential mid-century modern classics, textiles, and accessories.
Designers like Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen, Warren Platner, Isamu Noguchi, and Florence Knoll contributed to Knoll’s iconic designs. Knoll invests in research and field studies and explores organizational behavior and technology to ensure quality excellence. As a leader in sustainability, Knoll’s practices reduce waste and conserve resources. Based in Pennsylvania, Knoll has a strong international presence, and 40 products are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
